This Trivandrum Toastmasters meeting — No. 633, held on 26 September 2026 at Srothas Hall, Pattom — took “Challenge Yourself” as its theme, with Dare as the Word of the Day and “Push the Envelope” as the Phrase of the Day. Fittingly, the evening itself required a bit of last-minute adapting: with designated SAA TM Alan absent, TM Subramoni stepped in to open the meeting, before DTM A. T. Pillai, our Club President, formally called it to order.
A Trivandrum Toastmasters Meeting Built Around Challenge
TM Jayapalan, Toastmaster of the Day, introduced the evening’s theme and led a Round Robin session around it. Membership turnout was on the smaller side this time, but a strong showing of guests more than made up for it — everyone present, members and guests alike, got the chance to speak and share their own take on challenging themselves.
Prepared Speech and Table Topics

TM Cenia delivered her prepared speech, “Invisible Domino,” as part of Level 1, Project 3 of her Presentation Mastery pathway, with DTM Sajeev serving as Speech Evaluator. TM Nidhi then took over for the Table Topics session, once again making the most of a guest-heavy room — impromptu speaking practice for nearly everyone in attendance. TM Sreekanth walked away as Best Table Topics Speaker for the evening.
My Role as Grammarian

I served on the TAG team this meeting as Grammarian, alongside TM Roshni as Timer and TM Subramoni doing double duty as Ah-Counter after her earlier turn as SAA. Listening closely to how everyone used language throughout the evening — and introducing the Word of the Day for others to weave in — is one of my favorite parts of any Trivandrum Toastmasters meeting, since it’s a role that sharpens your own ear as much as anyone else’s grammar. TM Reena, our General Evaluator, brought the Timer, Ah-Counter, and Grammarian reports together into her own evaluation, closing out a genuinely well-rounded session.
Recognitions and What’s Next

The evening’s recognitions went to:
- Best Role Player — TM Jayapalan
- Best Speaker — TM Cenia
- Best Evaluator — DTM Sajeev
- Best Table Topics Speaker — TM Sreekanth
- Best TAG Team Player — TM Smitha
That last one was a genuinely happy surprise for me — being recognized for a role I quietly enjoy is its own small reminder that “Challenge Yourself” doesn’t always mean the biggest, boldest speech in the room; sometimes it’s just showing up and doing the listening role well. The President closed the meeting with his remarks and the distribution of awards, also announcing a Moments of Truth session coming up on 10 October 2026.
Despite fewer members than usual, this was a Trivandrum Toastmasters meeting that leaned fully into its own theme — smaller in number, but not in spirit. Much like Meeting 632’s Table Topics competition before it, it proved once again that confidence gets built through participation, not headcount.
